PLATFORMA members met on 19 November to discuss the progress accomplished this past year and the future network’s working agenda and work themes...

Several members underlined the need to work to prove the added value of local authority cooperation, at a time when the economic crisis is compromising their ability to commit at the international level. In this respect, the publication, in February 2013, of a study carried out by PLATFORMA on the role of local governments on development cooperation was very positively welcomed.

Moreover, this meeting allowed to acknowledge the positive outcome of the advocacy work carried out with the European Parliament during the discussion and amendment phase for the multiannual framework 2014-2020, and to discuss future work themes of the network.

The next important deadline is the PLATFORMA European Forum which will be held in February 2013 in Brussels. The network will have the opportunity to highlight the role of local governments in fragile states, and to debate on the Communication on local authorities in development, which should be published around the same time.
