Parliament and Council reach an agreement on the 2014-2020 multi-annual financial framework

The European Parliament and the Council finally reached a deal early December and adopted the multiannual financial framework for 2014-2020.

The upcoming budget is 3-5% less than the previous one, but the budget for external actions is kept steady (66.3 billion euro for seven years).

The budget of the Development cooperation instruments (DCI) will amount to 19.7 billion euro, with the Global Public Goods thematic programme and the Civil Society Organisations and Local Authorities thematic programme respectively given 5.1 and 1.9 billion euro.

The European Neighbourhood Instrument (ENI) represents 23% of the 66.3 and amounts to 15.4 billion euro and the European Instrument for Democracy and Human Rights (EIDHR) to 1.3 billion euro.

In addition, the European Development Fund (EDF), which is outside of the Union budget, amount to 30.5 billion euro.
