Georgian local authorities and civil society: joint efforts to strengthen local governance

The National Association of Local Authorities of Georgia (NALAG), in collaboration with the Association of Local Democracy Agencies (ALDA), is carrying out a project to further reinforce the participation of civil society in the local decision-making processes.

The project is composed of five components; the capacity building of civil society at the local level, the creation of a horizontal network, fostering political dialogue on a local government reform, organizing a media tour and the dissemination of information regarding the Georgia-EU Association Agreement, particularly putting an emphasis on public administrative reform.

Capacity building of local civil society represents an essential component of the project: it comprises carrying out training session on leadership, the importance of networks, effective communication and civil mobilization and also seeks to deepen the awareness of community leaders and non-registered initiative groups of local democracy issues.

The project is moreover funded by the European Commission and will run for two years, until 2016.
