General Description

General Description
AIMF is a network of francophone cities and associations of cities which share common values. Its objectives are to improve local management, to promote exchange of experience, to mobilise the expertise acquired by the cities in order to provide services in other countries and to finance development projects. AIMF has members in 50 countries.
Its mission is to mobilise governments at all levels, as well as the civil society and international partners. Its work is based on two central themes: decentralisation and local government and sustainable socio-economic development.
Since its creation, AIMF supported almost 1000 projects in the domains of water and decontamination, sustainable development, economic development, health, education and patrimony.

Objectives and results of the action
Objectives: (i) Strengthen partnerships and South-South cross-cultural dialogue to consolidate peace and regional stability
(ii) Contribution to strengthening the role of local authorities in the decentralisation process and enhance their recognition as regional partners on development policies
Development Results: - Formal and informal meetings were held between representatives of the two countries before, during and after the crisis. They conducted intermediation actions with national authorities, particularly in the post-crisis period. The Presidents of the mayors of Ivory Coast and Burkina Faso conducted a joint approach with their Ministers specifying the role they could play in the convergence of governments (joint ministers councils, joint major projects, etc. This convergence also facilitated the resolution of obstacles, especially between these two countries, that were hindering the building and the recognition of the local authorities Platform in the West African Economic and Monetary Zone (UEMOA).
- Action and cooperation plans were signed between LAs of both countries and CSOs, especially the organisations of the diaspora: framework agreement between Banfora and Ferkéssédou, Yamoussoukro and Koudougou, Ouagadougou and Abidjan District, Burkina North Region with Abidjan District, General Council of Bouaké and Bobo-Dioulasso city and Hauts Bassins Region. Ouagadougou and Abidjan presented a joint project to the EU. Several local authorities of IC and BF set up projects that received multilateral funding, especially from the EU.

Objectives and results of the action
Objectives: Capacity building of Cameroon and Congo local authorities in order to improve social and economic living conditions of the populations in a local democratic governance context
Development results
- The territorial expertise is strengthening and local executives use a management method focused on results, and they implement local development plans.
- The programming of territorial development is strengthening, and goes towards a greater efficiency of all local development players' actions
- The knowledge and access to international funding by local governments is strengthening
- Dialogue and exchanges of information and know-how between all local development players is strengthening at the local, regional and international level.
