New York – Paris: mayors to heal our climate

Our world of towns and regions has been taking the pulse of and recommending treatment for our climate these last weeks. Last September’s New York summit on the next Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) saw the world state that local governments hold the key to a better, fairer, greener world; and from end of November till early December Paris will host the world summit on climate change, the ubiquitous COP21.

The Paris - New York connection is strong: the host city’s mayor, Anne Hidalgo, and New York’s former mayor, Michael Bloomberg, are pushing for local governments to become the solution to climate change. 1,000 mayors representing our planet’s biggest cities (Beijing, Shanghai, Delhi, Dakar, London, Paris, Rio, New York…) will gather in the French capital city to state that by 2050 two humans in three will be living in towns or cities, that climate change occurs mainly in cities and that therefore solutions will be devised and implemented at local level. This will be PLATFORMA’s message in Paris.
