CONNECT: it's all about sharing local expertise

There was a massive interest for the new CONNECT project, presented for the first time at the European Development Days 2016 (EDD) mid-June in Brussels. This new mechanism developed by PLATFORMA & VNG International – to be launched next spring – will allow towns and regions in developing countries to find partners in Europe, and beyond, with relevant expertise to support their actions and their development.

The first one, published in June, is on the Netherlands. This research explores which national multi-stakeholder approaches can support inclusive implementation of the goals.

A huge success...

The 2016 European Development Days (EDD) brought together some 40,000 people from around the world, in Brussels on 15-16 June. And PLATFORMA was there of course! Our staff spent two days on the spot, manning the CONNECT stand (and promoting that future delivery mechanism that is being developed on behalf of all of us), attending sessions, and engaging with participants. We witnessed tremendous interest towards decentralised cooperation: universities, NGOs, culture, private sector representatives flocked towards our stand with myriads of questions!

Beyond EDD, last month saw the completion of “Project 4”. Its last action, a “Handbook for a successful project”, will be available in a few days in five languages. Furthermore, we are actively preparing the future as we will soon launch the reflection process on “what PLATFORMA for tomorrow?” (in which members will be mobilised!). Our policy team is investigating ways to improve the consultation of our partners as well as how to communicate with them. The work on a new website and extranet will also start before the summer break.

There will be no PLATFORMA newsletter in August, therefore, from all of us here: have a nice summer break!
