UCLG commits to build bridges, not walls
In the context of the deepening global migration crisis, United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) - PLATFORMA's partner - has decided to commit to build bridges rather than walls, between local governments and citizens of the world. UCLG calls for the protection of the values that unite us.

DEVE and AFET committees ready for the second half of legislature
At mid-term, MEPs from the European Parliament committees on Development (DEVE) and on Foreign Affairs (AFET) appointed chairs and vice-chairs for the next two and a half years. If there is no change in DEVE committee, a renewed presidency has taken power in AFET.

France: the call for projects in support of decentralised cooperation "Youth III" is open!
The Delegation to the External Action of Local and Regional Governments (DAECT) at the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development opens the third part of its Call for projects "Youth". It aims to support initiatives on mobility in the fields of vocational training for young people, and European and international mobility within the framework of volunteering.

Participatory Cartography to peacefully draw villages’ borders in Benin
Like in many parts of Africa, land rights in Benin are largely undocumented, resulting in land related conflicts accounting for 60% of court cases. In order to fast-track the modernisation of the country’s legal and institutional framework initiated by the introduction of the 2013 Land Code (Code foncier et domanial), citizens in two municipalities were asked to draw out the borders of their own villages. The result of this experiment: an inclusive and inexpensive tool for the demarcation of villages, municipalities or departments, called Participatory Cartography.

CLGF Conference - Ensuring local governments are fit for the future
The 2017 Commonwealth Local Government Conference to be held in Valetta, Malta on 21–14 November 2017 will look at strategies for strengthening the resource base and capacity of local governments to improve performance and delivery and ensure they are fit for purpose and can take their role as part of a smart and competitive economy.
