3-4 April : Forum of local and regional authorities of the MediterraneanThe Mediterranean Commission of UCLG, the City of Marseille, the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur Region and all member networks of the Mediterranean Commission are organising, with the support of the French Ministry for Foreign Affairs, the 3rd Forum of local and regional authorities of the Mediterranean on 3rd and 4th April 2013 in Marseille.
Following the radical changes that have taken place in the region, this assembly that gather Mediterranean elected officials will once again provide the occasion for exchanges on political, economic and social challenges, and for a fruitful contribution to development and peace efforts in the Mediterranean.
The Forum’s programme and workshops will be instrumental to formulate proposals aimed at strengthening local democracy and supporting the decentralisation process, and implementing decentralised development policies that take into account local specificities and address economic, environmental and social issues, placing youth in the foreground. Directly confronted to crisis situations, they will also question their roles in their management and resolution.
Lastly the Forum of the Anna Lindh Foundation to be held from 4 to 7 April 2013 in Marseille will offer the occasion to extend an invitation to 70 Mediterranean young people to exchange their views and proposals on these relevant issues with the local and regional elected officials gathered in the third Forum of Local and Regional Authorities of the Mediterranean.
The Forum will also be an opportunity to review the contribution of international fund donors to the region’s development and to introduce the « Political Declaration of the Local and Regional Authorities of the Mediterranean » to the attending international institutions representatives.
