Monitoring quality “is a must” for decentralised cooperationThe new Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs – see article above) will be achieved through effective development cooperation, and this in turn can be achieved by strengthening knowledge sharing and learning. This is one of the main conclusions of the steering committee of the Global Partnership for Effective Development Cooperation meeting in Mexico on 3 and 4 September.
Delegates also stressed the importance of proper monitoring of the quality of development cooperation as a means to reach the SDGs.
Participants included UCLG, European Commission and local government representatives.
The Global Partnership for Effective Development Cooperation was established in Busan in 2011. It aims to ensure that cooperation has the maximum possible impact on development. It is supported by OECD and UNDP and chaired by Malawi, Mexico and The Netherlands. UCLG/FOGAR have had a joint seat in the Steering Committee since 2014 and endeavour to promote the role of local and regional governments.
