A decent life for all !

Inspiring title for the document setting principles for an EU approach ahead of the future debates on the post-2015 framework… Too bad that the aforementioned document completely overlooks local and regional governments’ role in tackling the Millennium Development Goals  and any future sustainable development goals for that matter. What of the 2008 communication, the Structured dialogue, the Agenda for change, the consultation on the communication on local and regional authorities in development ? Baby steps for nothing ? What of actions carried out at the local and regional level such as the implementation of policies in the fields of water and sanitation, access to education and health services, transport, housing, social cohesion? Teaching skills will be in order in the coming months so the EU position takes into account the local level. Upcoming events on the post-MDGs, such as the round table that Catalonia and PLATFORMA jointly organise in the context of the Assises of decentralised cooperation will provide such opportunities !
