From Rabat to New York...

UCLG world congress concluded with all eyes set on some important milestones for the development agenda, such as the post-2015 development framework and the third UN conference on urban sustainable development “Habitat III”; in the Rabat declaration, local and regional elected representatives from all over the world reasserted their commitment to formulate an Agenda of towns, cities and regions of the 21st century and recalled their will to be included in all processes of international decision making. While one of the outcome of the UN special event on the realisation of the MDGswas the adoption of a clear road map for the negociations of the post-2015 framework, the views of local and regional elected representatives on governance, reduction of inequalities between territories, access to basic services and sustainable urban development is more necessary than ever. The proposed calendar with the opening of the negociations at the 69th session of the UN General Assembly still leaves one year to sharpen the arguments, but time is running!
