At the heart of the urban autumn, Piebalgs hands over the reins to Mimica!

The month of October saw the continued efforts of local and regional representatives and their associations in the support of an urban SDG. PLATFORMA, through its spokesperson Hans Janssen – who is also the rapporteur for the Committee of the Regions on the post-2015 agenda, called on the support of the European Commission to maintain Goal 11 during his intervention in the Policy Forum on development. He likewise had the opportunity to discuss, together with the President of the DEVE Committee of the European Parliament, Linda McAvan, the role of LRGs in a sustainable and inclusive development. The post-2015 agenda is to no surprise one of the top priorities of the new Commissioner for International cooperation and development, Neven Mimica, who took over from Commissioner Piebalgs on November 1. We would therefore like to welcome the new Commissioner, who in his hearing already showed great knowledge of the major topics covered by his portfolio, and also take this opportunity to commend once more the work of Commissioner Pielbags, whose mandate at the head of the DG DEVCO-EuropeAid (2009 -2014) saw a renewed consideration and inclusion of local and regional governments in European development policy, particularly with the Structured Dialogue and the adoption of the 2013 May Communication!
